Donations accepted during shop hours.

All proceeds benefit services at Abilities Plus!

The shop boasts a wide array of items, including clothing for men, women, teens and children, as well as linens, toys, books, housewares, jewelry, collectibles, seasonal items and furniture.  Selections change weekly.

Open since 1982, all of the profits stay local and benefit programs and services for individuals with disabilities.  The shop is run by volunteers, and is also used as a training site for Abilities Plus recipients.

Guidelines for Donations:
Donations are accepted any time the shop is open.  Items should be lightly used and in good repair.  Used mattresses, box springs, garage sale leftovers and tube televisions are not accepted.

Volunteering Opportunities:
Volunteers are always needed to receive, sort and price clothing and merchandise, as well as greet customers, make change and bag purchases.  If you are interested in volunteering your time and talent at Hazel Pettit's Abilities Plus Resale Shop, please see the Volunteering Page for more details.

History:
The shop has been open since April 18, 1982.  Four women from Geneseo; Kathryn Fehlman, Esther Desplinter, Maxine Marchese, and Hazel Pettit were the driving force behind its creation.

After talking extensively with the three other women, Hazel Pettit approached the director of Abilities Plus with the idea, and she helped secure the first building.  Despite the lack of plumbing and heat, the shop stayed open all that first winter.

Through the years the store has relocated several times, and has provided Abilities Plus with an incredible amount of financial support.  In 2012 the shop moved to the present location at 310 N. Main Street.

About Hazel:
Hazel Pettit is one of the founders of the Abilities Plus Resale Shop, and continued to work there well into her 90's.  In 2012 when she retired, the Resale Shop was officially named after Hazel, for her outstanding commitment to the success of the shop and individuals with disabilities.
